5 Tips to Avoid Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is dangerous, from the moment you start daydreaming to the moment you slam into a car in front of you. While talking on your phone, watching a movie, or using social media apps may seem harmless at the time, it could kill you. Don’t risk getting caught up in your devices while you’re behind the wheel. If you have ever been involved in a distracted driving accident, you should consult a Grand Junction car accident lawyer to ensure that you get deserving compensation for injuries and losses incurred.

Today, we’re going to talk about how to avoid it and make sure that your focus is safe for everyone on the road.

Use your cell phone in emergencies only

It’s not uncommon for people to use their phones while on the road, especially when they’re stuck in traffic or waiting at a stop light. While this may seem harmless, it can cause a lot of trouble. You may be tempted to check your messages or scroll through your Twitter feed when you find yourself in a long line of traffic, but resist the urge.

    • Pull off the road if you are drowsy

While it may be tempting to try to make your way home before you fall asleep at the wheel, that’s not a good choice. If you feel drowsy, don’t get behind the wheel of your car. Pull over to the side of the road, take a quick nap, and then head home once you’ve regained a little bit of energy.

    • Avoid eating and drinking while driving

Eating and drinking while driving is dangerous, as it slows you down and affects your judgment. You may be tempted to eat a burger or drink a soda while waiting in line at the traffic signal, but that’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others on the road by accidentally hitting another vehicle.

    • Do your multi-tasking outside the car

If you’re worried about being distracted while driving, why not try your phone or GPS app after stopping your car? Multitasking is dangerous when you do it inside a moving vehicle, so why not take the risk when you’re in a stationary one?

    • Limit the activities inside the car

While your kids may want to watch a movie during the drive, you should resist the urge. The more your passengers are doing inside the car, the more distracting it becomes for you to concentrate on the road ahead. Make sure that everyone stays focused on safety.
