Mineral insulated cable (also known as type MI cable) is a specialized electrical wiring used in hazardous and high-temperature environments. It is made from magnesium oxide, which has excellent electrical and thermal properties. As a result, MI cable is a perfect choice for applications that require reliability and safety.

    What is the mineral-insulated cable?

Mineral Insulated cables (or MI cables) are sometimes referred to as metal minerals insulated metal sheathed cables (MIMS) or MICC. MICC is the acronym for Mineral Insulated Copper Cable.

A mineral insulated thermocouple cable consists of two conductors, sometimes four or six dissimilar metals. These conductors should be joined on the side where the temperature should also be measured (hot junction).

A voltage can be produced when the conductors are correctly connected. This voltage can then be used to determine temperature. Insulating dissimilar metals with high-quality magnesium oxide is done. The sheath material that resists corrosion, Inconel or Stainless Steel, is also used.

What are the uses of mineral insulated cable?

Mineral insulated cable application is one of the most popular applications in the electrical industry. It can be used for many purposes. Mineral-insulated cables are widely used today in high-rise buildings and other places such as airports and tunnels, shipping, aircraft, off-shore oil platforms, and shopping malls. They are more durable, reliable, and resistant to fire than ordinary cables.

In addition, a mineral cable can supply electricity for up to 100 hours at a temperature of 250F, while a mineral cable that is 950 to 1000 can provide power for up to 100 hours. However, a shorter or longer period can cause the copper 1083 work to melt.

    Advantages of mineral insulated cable.

Mineral insulated cables (MI cables) are a particular type of cable that can be used in extreme temperatures and harsh environments. They have low flammability and can operate at high temperatures. In addition, it is resistant to oxidation and allows for precise measurement..

The metal sheath that covers the MI cable protects the wires from oxidation in wet or chemically active environments. In addition, mineral-insulated cables are corrosion-resistant, making them ideal for areas where replacement or repair could prove dangerous or impossible.

Mineral fillings used in MI cables provide excellent insulation that prevents thermocouple wires from contact with one another or with acidic substances like oils, solvents, or water. This ensures that thermocouple probes are accurate in heat treatment or sintering applications where product quality could be affected by temperature fluctuations.

Mineral-insulated cables are ideal for applications that could be hazardous by fire because they don’t burn. The insulation protects the probes from direct contact with other wires that could cause malfunctions or incorrect temperature measurements. In addition, MI cables are calibrated to international standards and provide precise and accurate temperature measurements over long duty cycles without any loss.

MI cables can operate at high temperatures without losing accuracy because of their mineral insulation. They are ideal for high-temperature processes such as firing ceramics, kilns, and heat-treating metals. These cables are excellent for thermocouple probes in high-temperature operations because they retain their accuracy even after exposure to extreme temperatures.
